Circuit: 3,619km., Weather: Dry, sunny/cloudy 20-26C
TROY THIRD!
Troy finished third fastest on the first day of qualifying at Silverstone, but
it could’ve been first! But for a small mistake on his fast lap, Troy would’ve
topped the leaderboard today, but a little slip-up lost him the best part of
three tenths of a second and that was enough to push him down to third place.
Regis Laconi posted the day’s fastest time, with a lap of 1:27.578. His Ducati
team mate James Toseland was less then one tenth of a second behind. Troy and
his Alstare team mate Yukio Kagayama completed the provisional front row, with
Frankie Chili (Honda) fifth and Karl Muggeridge (Honda) sixth.
TROY - 3rd, 1:27.696
I put on my qualifying tyre and, up until the final chicane, I was all set for a
pretty quick lap. But, I got into it a bit too deep, overshot and lost my drive
on the exit and onto the start-finish straight and that cost me provisional
pole. But it’s not a big drama and I’m not worried, because tomorrow and Sunday
are far more important. All the work we did today worked out really well and I
feel and we’ve almost got the set-up we want. The new Silverstone layout is very
physical and there are no places at all to have a rest - it’s that kind of a
track and quite different to the one we’ve raced on the past two seasons - and I
have no idea why they have changed it this way. We did a half race distance
today and the tyre was pretty consistent, so I am pretty happy with that side of
things. All we’ll do tomorrow is a bit of fine-tuning and see if we can get the
bike even better. I wasn’t pushing 100 per cent today, so I’m pretty confident
of a good result tomorrow.
