2005 World Superbike Championship
Round 5 , Silverstone (GB), Saturday 28th May 2005, Final Qualifying
Circuit: 3,619km., Weather: Dry, sunny/cloudy, very windy at times
TROY ROW IS OK
Troy settled for a front row grid place in Superpole today, rather then risk a
crash in the difficult conditions. After yesterday’s scorcher, today was much
cooler, with strong winds buffeting the 3.561 kilometre Silverstone circuit
throughout the day. Troy found the wind a problem on his Superpole lap and
decided to stay on the front row instead of pushing hard and maybe suffering a
fall in the process. But there was good news, because Troy’s Alstare Suzuki team
mate Yukio Kagayama posted the fastest lap of the weekend and took Superpole. He
flew round the circuit in 1:26.679. Second quickest was his fellow countryman
Noriyuki Haga (Yamaha), with Regis Laconi (Ducati) fourth.
TROY - 4th, 1:27.177
Of course Superpole would’ve been nice but, if I couldn’t win the watch, I’m
happy my team mate Yukio got it instead. Front row is OK and I am happy because
I know I have a good race set-up and I also know which tyres I will use in
tomorrow’s races. This new (shorter) circuit is physically very demanding, but I
think if anybody can make a break and take an early lead it will be hard to
catch them. I have a feeling that, although the track is shorter and more
twisty, the races may not be as tight as people think. So, my aim is to get a
good start and see if I can get the drop on the rest and leave them to fight
each other.
