NANNELLI LINES UP FOURTH, FRONT ROW, AT SILVERSTONE
(Silverstone 2005, May 28)
Once more Gianluca Nannelli will start, after impressive performance in
qualifying as happened in Monza, from the front row of the starting grid
tomorrow at Silverstone for the fifth round of Supersport World Championship, on
the 749R Ducati Scuderia SC Caracchi. The Florentine rider set fourth quickest
time after a long set up work and kept the position despite a crash outing the
Beckett corners in the final qualifying session.
"Today has been a positive day, we tested some setting solution that gave a good
result, both for the race pace and the qualifying lap; I'm sorry for the crash,
but when you push hard it could happen." - that's been the final comment by
Gianluca Nannelli. "The bike runs well, has a good top speed and the handling
too is better along all the circuit, just in the final split I'm a bit slow.
When I crashed I was running faster, but I lose the front wheel; however I run
to the pit to restart on the spare bike and, with old tyres, I recorded similar
laptimes as before, so I'm quite satisfied. Unfortunately we'll have to do a lot
of work to repair the bike, but looking that the spare bike is running well let
us not worry. I hope in a good start tomorrow a to be able with the leaders
until the end of the race."
More difficult have been things for Superbike team, whit both the riders out of
the group allowed for Superpole and tomorrow they'll start from the sixth row.
More Fonsi Nieto has been handed a ride-through penalty for the first of two
races after a post practice control when his 999RS Ducati's cut off device
didn't work properly, while during all the test made by the team during the
week end worked correctly.
"Today it was better, I'm learning the track and improving my lap time." - said
at the end of practice Fonsi Nieto. "During morning's session I've been not
able to use the qualifying tyre because in my fastest lap I found Pitt parked
along the track and I must stop my action, so in the grid I'm quite behind, but
during the afternoon free practice I improved, with race tyre, my qualifying
time scored in the morning; that means I'm learning and, also if I'll start
behind, I have a good pace and for tomorrow I'm confident in a positive result."
Also Lorenzo Lanzi is confident in a good result tomorrow, also the fight will
be hard to get positions in a very small, phisical and twisted circuit.
"As often happens we record the better result on Saturday afternoon, when it's
too late." - said a disappointed Lorenzo at the end of the practices. "Today my
arm was working better, but I need time to find the old feeling with this bike
after a month's stop. For tomorrow I think I'll be able for a good race in the
first heat, then in race-2 I'm afraid that the pain will return, but I'll try to
finish in any case. Those bikes request a continuous traing; I'm however
satisfied because the guys have done a good work and we found a good set up for
the race. In the afternoon we tested a new front setting that we didn't have in
the morning and looks to be good, I think weìll select that solution for the
race too."
