SMALL MISTAKE COSTS TROY SUPERPOLE

A small mistake on his flying lap was enough for Troy to miss out on Superpole,
and another Breil watch, but he is on the front row and ready for tomorrow’s
pair of 24-lap races. Lorenzo Lanzi, deputising for the injured Regis Laconi,
took full advantage of his factory Ducati ride and posted the fastest lap in the
16-rider shoot-out, only 73/100ths of a second quicker then Troy. Third
quickest is Chris Vermeulen (Honda), with James Toseland (Ducati) fourth. Troy’s
team mate Yukio Kagayama finished with the ninth quickest time and will start
from the third row of the grid.

TROY - 2nd, 1:39.092

My first split was up, but then I made a little mistake on the back straight. I
thought I had gone down from fifth to second gear, but I got third instead. That
caused me to run wide and that’s where the time was lost. It was my own fault,
but I’m on the front row and that’s what matters really.

I ran a race distance today and the front tyre worked very well. If the rear
holds up as well, then I’m going to be very happy. I don’t think anybody is
going to break away round this track, so I’m expecting a couple of close races.
A lot will depend on how the rear tyre holds up in the latter part of the race.
This track is quite a bit more bumpy then when I was last here, so it makes all
the laps very physical. Also, there are not many overtaking possibilities, so
it’s going to be a long, hard day tomorrow for sure.
